Enjoy our cyber home and do join us if you are in our portion of the pond.
The Rockland Aquanauts is one of the
oldest and largest dive organizations in the Northeast United States, and, it is
made up of a diverse group of divers of all ages, dive preferences and diving
abilities (from the newly certified to the most advanced technical decompression
diver). Beyond what was just stated what brings our club members together is a
very real common thread…we all love to dive, and we all love to dive as much
as we can.
The Rockland Aquanauts can be
found in the blue water haunts of the Caribbean basin, the Pacific Rim, the Red
Sea, the Florida Keys or in our own backyard – our portion of the North
Atlantic. A large number of club
members enjoy diving in Long Island Sound, and off the Long Island and New
Jersey coasts. We are also found in the fresh water lakes north of the city and
beyond.
We are sustaining supporters of
Diver Alert Network, we also support the New York State Diving
Association and the New Jersey Council of Divers. Some of our members belong to
the Eastern Dive Boat Association. We do what we can to further diving locally
as well as nationally. We try to support those groups that support diving and
therefore our organization.
At prearranged times during the
local dive season we volunteer for an environmental clean ups in the Bear
Mountain State Park lake chain. Our goal is to help keep our underwater environment
garbage free.
Our meetings are once a month, on
the second Tuesday, and go beyond club business. After the regular business
segment we have guest speakers present topical and vital presentations for our
membership and the general public. In the past we have had the luminaries of the
diving world speak to our membership: Bernie Chowdery of Immersed Magazine
presented on his cave explorations in Iceland, as well as his recent book Last Dive. Author,
technical diver pioneer and salver Gary Gentile, Captain Dan Berg of Wreck
Valley, Evelyn Dudas, Captain Noel Voroba--- Orbit Marine, Captain Frank Persico-
the Sea Hawk, Captain Howard Klein the
Eagles Nest, Captain Dan Crowell and Captain John Chatterton the U-869 (U-Who).
Pete Nowrocky – Dive Rite, Dr. Hillary Vitters, the PA State Forensic Dive team, Glen Butler - NASA
and more.
Without slighting the diving
famous, the best shows are put on by our own members when they come back from
the near and far with slides and tales of wonder about their diving adventures.
We are a very active organization, check out our local schedules and
upcoming events.
This in a nutshell is the Rockland
Aquanauts. Again thanks for visiting our cyber home…. join us anytime either
here or in person. Please dive safe, dive responsible, and dive as much as you
can.
Sincerely,
The Rockland Aquanauts Board of Directors
