The Rockland Aquanauts

The Rockland Aquanauts started in 1966 as a handful of divers in need of buddies. Over the years we have grown to be the oldest and largest dive organization in Rockland County. We are a diverse group of individuals from all walks of life, bonded by a love for diving and a healthy respect for our underwater planet. Our organization supplements our love for diving with opportunities for adventure, education, and good clean fun! We welcome the novice, the old salty dog, the blue water, green water, or brown water diver. There are many good things in store for you ... come and join us. As of March 2002, the Rockland Aquanauts Organization is now incorporated as a not-for-profit organization and fully insured.

MEETINGS
Our organization usually meets on the second Tuesday of every month.  The Normal meeting location is in at the West Nyack Free Library. For meeting information and directions check the Special Events Page.

Educational and entertaining programs are the highlight of each meeting and cover topics from Antarctic diving to Wreck Valley explorations. Our speakers read like the Who's Who in Diving. We've enjoyed programs by Dan Berg, Bob Bachand, John Chatterton, Evie Dudas, Mike Emmerman, Gary Gentile, Dick Long, Pete Nawrocky, Herb Segars, Hillary Viders, Andrea Zaferes, just to name a few. We end our meeting with a "decompression stop" for those of us who need to "hang" a little longer.

DIVE OPPORTUNITIES
Our dive committee coordinates local and state-wide dive activities to bring a calendar of adventure-packed opportunities to our donor.
SURFACE INTERVALS
We all have to come up for air sooner or later. "Dry" activities include a summer picnic for members and their families. Our Annual Dinner is held in January and at this time members take home awards for logged Bottom Time, Largest lobster, and other "more meaningful" accomplishments.
ECOLOGICAL EVENTS
Our volunteers practice their "green technique" and provide a valuable clean-up service for our Palisades Interstate Park Commission. We schedule clean up dives in  Hessian Lake at Bear Mt. State Park to remove trash and pollutants.
We are also planning eco-trips to locations around the world to help awareness and conservation of our natural resources.
DONOR BENEFITS
The organization  provides dive subsidies for registered donors wishing to dive locally (Long Island Sound, NY, NJ). Our members can take advantage of discounts at participating dive shops and boats.  In addition, some dive publications offer us substantial subscription discounts.
